Succulent chicken breasts glazed with sweet and smoky BBQ sauce, grilled to juicy perfection. Learn to avoid dry meat and achieve a flavorful crust every time.

  • Total Time: 25
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken breasts (pounded to an even 1-inch thickness)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 3/4 cup BBQ sauce (such as Sweet Baby Ray’s)

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels
  2. Place each chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap
  3. Pound chicken breasts with a meat mallet to an even 1-inch thickness
  4. Drizzle olive oil evenly over all sides of the chicken breasts
  5. Sprinkle kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika evenly over both sides
  6. Rub the seasonings gently into the chicken
  7. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375-400°F) and clean the grates thoroughly with a wire brush
  8. Lightly oil the clean grill grates to prevent sticking
  9. Place seasoned chicken breasts directly over the heat
  10. Grill for 4-6 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C)
  11. Brush BBQ sauce liberally over one side during the last 2 minutes of grilling
  12. Flip the chicken and brush the other side with BBQ sauce
  13. Continue grilling for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to caramelize slightly
  14. Remove chicken from the grill when the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C)

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer for accuracy and avoid overcooking; carryover heat will finish cooking the meat.
  • Ensure all chicken breasts are uniformly pounded for even cooking.
  • Brush BBQ sauce on both sides for maximum flavor.
  • Use halal/certified non-alcoholic alternatives for the sauce if required.
